Signature Speaker Program | Strategic Trade-Offs: The Cost of Doing Business

Adam Hobler – Senior Brand Manager, Purina

Like most categories, the dog treat category has faced significant disruption from smaller, more agile competitors. In order to stay relevant and meet changing consumer needs, Purina needed to think and act more like a small company while still leveraging its Big Co. competitive advantages. This presentation will walk through a case study of how a large, complex organization made strategic trade-offs to more effectively compete in an evolving market by adapting existing processes and expectations.

Key Take-Aways:

- Pivot & think with an owner-mentality
- Act without 100% certainty
- Accept that you cannot be all things to all people

Adam Hobler is not your typical Senior Brand Manager. He has had classic business training from the largest CPG company in the world, Nestle, and has been put through the pragmatic mindset of a founder of a natural food startup. Hobler has led consumer targeting strategies and built innovation pipelines for the +$600MM Treats Portfolio, launched over 15 new brands and products, owned the P&L for brands such as Beggin’, Waggin’ Train, and Beneful Treats, and also founded a Smoothie Pack company in and around the St. Louis area.
